2010: A Sans Nose Muse

Time to part ways with 2010. What an interesting year it's been. Eleven months ago, the surgery to remove a tumor growing between my eyes left a hole in the middle of my face. As daunting as it may sound to all-of-a-sudden face the mirror with such a radical reflection alteration, the surgery was a medical success. The cancer is gone. And heck, my beauty pageant days were long past anyway, so in truth it's not that tragic.

I thought I'd look back on 2010 from my new sans nose perspective and share my most memorable moments, one theme at a time. Today's theme:

The Importance of Fiber Arts

Many healing moments this past year for me included knitting and crocheting. Like when my friend Sally stopped by the week after my surgery, bringing the incredible baby quilt she was working on for her new granddaughter. Or April in Los Gatos, knitting scarves with my sister's at the Yarn Dogs Yarn Dogs Yarn Dogs yarn tasting. A special trip in November sharing time with my daughter in Austin at the The Knitting Nest's American Cancer Society fundraising event. And spending a day knitting preemie caps with NetApp colleagues. Among the reasons I'm healthy today is that the ancient tradition of women spinning stories while stitching fiber is flourishing.

Crafty Fact: This past November, Ravelry.com, the social database for knitter's and crocheters, reached one million registered users.

Photos tomorrow ...
